FIU Downtown MBA Scholarship

Miami DDA offering scholarship for one lucky ‘DWNTWNR’  How will you use your MBA to improve downtown, Miami?
 
The Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is offering an extraordinary opportunity to downtowners seeking to further their education in the heart of Miami’s urban core. The Miami DDA will award one lucky “downtowner” the opportunity to receive a full scholarship – valued at $45,000 – for a Professional MBA from Florida International University’s Chapman Graduate School of Business, Downtown Miami campus on Brickell Avenue, with classes to begin this Fall (August 2011).
 
All you have to do is follow the instructions below and submit an essay explaining how you will use your education to improve the future of downtown. Deadline to apply has been extended to July 15.

Here’s how you can be the lucky recipient of fully-paid MBA in FIU’s new downtown campus.
 
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:  
      •  Live or work in downtown
      •  Be admitted into the program by FIU
      •  Submit your essay about how you will use your MBA to improve the future of downtown

** Employee and immediate family members,  or anyone under contract with the Miami DDA is not eligible to apply **

How to Apply:
      •  First and foremost, submit your application to the FIU Downtown MBA program
      •  Then submit your DDA Scholarship application - (Application Download), which includes a 500 word 
          essay requirement, along with proof of work or residency within the DDA boundaries - 
          DDA Boundary Map.  Note: proof can be a copy of driver’s license or utility bill for residency; for
          employment, the Miami DDA will accept a signed letter from a supervisor on company letterhead or copy
          of a recent pay stub.

Essay:
In 500 words or less, we want to know how you would apply the knowledge and skills acquired through the FIU Downtown MBA to improve the future of downtown. Have an idea for a business that would be an economic catalyst for the area? Want to work your way up in one of downtown’s many prominent corporations? Have a big business idea that would enable you to live and play in downtown? We want to hear about it!
 
In developing your essay, consider topics such as why you are passionate about downtown; your history in downtown (did you live in or visit often as a child, have you worked in the area long, is your favorite restaurant located there, etc.); why it is important for you to obtain an MBA; details of how you would use your MBA to improve downtown; etc.
 
**Although NOT a requirement, you may submit photos or video along with your essay, only if it will help us better grasp the inspiration and purpose of your essay.**

About the Judges: A panel of 5 downtown business and community leaders will carefully review the applications and determine which one will win the scholarship.
