I-395 Baywalk Pedestrian & Bikeway Bridge
Overview
The most difficult barrier to finishing a complete Downtown Baywalk occurs at the I-395 MacArthur Causeway, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to circumnavigate the site to along an unsafe section of Biscayne Blvd. The Miami DDA and the City of Miami’s Office of Capital Improvements (with lease agreements from FDOT) are advancing the design and construction of an over-the-water pedestrian bridge that will finally connect Maurice Ferre Park and the PAMM to the south to the property owned by Resorts World/Genting to the north. The pedestrian bridge will not only provide access and connection, but should be an iconic destination that truly activates the waterfront.

4.5 Connect and Promote Downtown Parks, Open Space and Greenways
Status
On July 22, 2021, City Commission accepted the City’s Manager’s recommendation to award a contract to EXP Engineering USA for the design of the pedestrian bridge. In January 2022, the consultant team held stakeholder meetings, performed site analysis and data collection. The next step is to host a community meeting, and then the consultant team will develop three (3) design alternatives with associated costs.
1-Year Outlook: Work with the City and consultant team on public outreach towards Phase 1 Design. Consultant team will bring 3 alternatives before City Commissioner, Miami DDA and FDOT for review/approvals.
2-Year Outlook: Proceed with full design and permitting. Additional design funding needs to be acquired.
3-Year Outlook: Acquire additional funding for construction. Procure contractor. Construction could be complete by year 4 or 5.
